The Island Shoemaker

We first began making shoes in 1981, when our children were small and we wanted to find leather shoes with natural, plantation crepe soles. With the help of a friend, who had recently started Conker shoes in Totnes, we learnt the basic skills required and sourced some ancient stitching machines. We began with making moccasins and set up a shoe shop corner in our cafe. 

Things have moved on a bit since then.Over the years we have developed a whole range of hand-made shoes, boots, sandals, belts and bags, all crafted from leather, offering solid brass buckles and a choice of soles. Our shoeshop has also moved around from being housed in our cafe to a purpose-built micro-shop in Higher Town. Now, our eldest daughter, Abby, has become the next generation of shoemaker, providing top quality footwear, bags and belts for our workshop here as well as having her own workshop in Newquay.
